Every week more and more do we find great places for weekend brunches. During Miami Food and Wine I visited MC Kitchen in Design District as a guest of some prominent leaders in the culinary industry that were invited by Chef Dena Marino. WoW! Was I happy? Extremely and for many reasons. First, I was in great company . Second, I had the opportunity of meeting the ever so warm and gracious Chef Dena Marino. Then the food came out and I was more than pleased. I ordered a fat juicy Harris Ranch Angus Burger along with Aspens famous truffle fries. It was perfect and the thickly cut bacon on top was more than I expected with the truffle fries that rocked my pallet. Now there was one downside to my meal. One of the guests on the table ordered the oven baked eggs and I succeeded in containing myself when they offered me a bite after they saw me gazing at there food. I should had been me and tried a bite of everyone’s food. The upside? I came back to MC Kitchen nice and early this past weekend and ordered that same dish and a few others for my routine Sunday Brunch excursion. What can I say. I had to take out the camera to share my Sunday with you. I recommend MC Kitchen for Brunch where I find the eggs to be golden.
When you drive up and down Biscayne Boulevard its usually not a joy ride rather a pseudo expressway to and from home and work. But for a select few that have been part of the redevelopment the MIMO district and residential neighborhoods on the upper east side, this is now called home with a growth in pedestrian traffic and small businesses. Biscayne Boulevard’s MIMO district area is where many new restaurateurs are moving to and building there kitchens while older operators are redesigning and revamping there menu’s. What makes this dining area unique is that most of these new eateries are nestled in smaller quaint spaces within historical buildings with little to no storefront signage. Don’t expect to see much action from the street. Many have there parking and main entrances through the rear of the buildings as how Biscayne’s landscape was built back in 50′s and 60′s. You will find all kinds of eateries with a variety menu’s with a current new wave of Americana influenced restaurants sprouting. We encourage you to take a drive and visit some of the neighborhood restaurants because there is always some kind of surprise hidden with these unique spaces. In the next few weeks, we will cover the different restaurants on MIMO. Today we will go Asian with Moonchine Bistro and Garden. On the corner of 71st and Biscayne (from the street view) you have what appears to be a small Asian Bistro known as Moonchine on the ground floor of an old historical hotel and now home to an office building for nearly seven years. Don’t drive by. Dare to enter through the back of the lot and you will discover not only a parking lot but the main entrance to Moonchine’s Garden and lounge dimly lit for any cocktail gathering or romantic dinner. If you want home-style Thai, Sushi or Vietnamese in the area, here you go! Click for links: Moonchine Asian Bistro / Take Out here / Facebook / 7100 Biscayne Boulevard Miami Fl. 33138 / 305.759.3999 Moonchine is open Monday – Sunday. Daily Happy Hour from 4-8pm. Saturday Breakfast and Sunday Brunch photo’s by Tony Guerra / Miami food Lovers

Las Vacas Gordas is one of the best Miami Steakhouses because of the meat they serve. Do not expect your traditional hotel styled hostess greeting you at the front door on open table. You may even have to pull out your own chair and possibly flag down a waiter or two. But truly, it is OK. Every minute is worth the wait. I am happy to just get a table. At the very end, I go to Las Vacas Gordas for one reason only and that is for my steak. This Argentine Grill is for the real steak aficionado with an exquisite taste for the traditional South American grilled meat and a passionate kitchen. Las Vacas Gordas delivers size, taste and a great experience straight up. Best family style neighborhood steak house in Miami Beach. by Tony Guerra Follow MIAMI FOOD LOVERS TWITTER LAS VACAS GORDAS - 933 NORMANDY DRIVE MIAMI BEACH 305.867.1717
